When Math was Invented 

We spend many years of our lives studying core subjects of mathematics, sciences and the humanities. Inevitably, most would be interested in when/where Mathematics was invented and how it came to be. 

Though there is no clear answer, Ancient Sumarians would be one of the earliest users of mathematics and its invention would be around 3000B.C.

Apart from the general field of mathematics, where plus and minus signs are involved, mathematicians such as Johann Wildmann were the initial users of the symbol, created in the 1480s.

What is the Singapore Math Society

Founded in 1952, the Singapore Mathematical Society (SMS) is the national body representing the interests of the mathematical community in Singapore. It is a constituent body of the Singapore National Academy of Science, as well as member of the International Mathematical Union and International Council for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

How Many Tuition Centres in Singapore

There is an estimate of 850 tuition centre in Singapore, however, considering freelance private tutors, who may enter and exit the industry at any time, the amount may be a generous estimate. 

Based on the latest Household Expenditure Survey (HES) conducted from 2017 to 2018 by the Department of Statistics (DOS), resident households on average spend $112 a month on private tuition and other educational courses.

How is Tuition Calculated

The private tuition industry charges via per hour or per session. This will often differ across levels from 

• $30~70 for Primary School Mathematics tuition, 
• $40~$100 for Secondary School Mathematics tuition
• or $40~$120 for JC Mathematics tuition.
