Quantitative Analyst:

Naturally, where calculations and maths are involved, quantitative analysts are often employed in finance and investment firms. They use mathematical and statistical models to develop trading strategies, analyze financial markets, and manage risk. Some of the names that remain major stakeholders of the industry include J.P Morgan Asset Management, Blackrock, Goldman Sachs and Citigroup


Cryptographers design and analyze cryptographic algorithms to secure data, protect communication networks, and develop encryption methods. Strong mathematical skills, particularly in number theory and algebra, are essential for this field.


Computer Science

Is Math Needed For Computer Science?

A common question is if maths is required for computer science, and the answer is yes. Most career tracks require at least basic mathematical knowledge, for example, an app developer may be able to code with basic programming languages and arithmetic. 

Most commonly, most students who have encountered the “O” level math syllabus would have learnt matrices. One of the concepts that is core to computer science is linear algebra which requires that knowledge. Linear algebra is used in computer graphics, machine learning, and data analysis. Concepts like matrices, vectors, linear transformations, and eigenvalues play a significant role in these fields. Matrix operations, such as matrix multiplication and matrix factorization, are vital for solving systems of linear equations and performing computations in graphics and machine learning algorithms.

Do I Need Math to Study Psychology?

Unlike computer science, it is not compulsory to score well for math to study psychology. But there are aspects of math that relate to psychology, such as in object-oriented programming. It may come as a surprise, but psychologists often use mathematical methods for measuring and quantifying various aspects of human behavior and cognition. They use statistical techniques to analyze data from experiments, surveys, and observations, enabling them to draw conclusions and make inferences about psychological phenomena.
